New England's largest sports facility in terms of seating capacity, the Speedway is also the site of the first sporting event in New England to draw over 100,000 fans in a single day. The track officially opened in 1990 with its first NASCAR Nationwide Series race in July of that year. The first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race was in July 1993. Today, the track hosts two annual NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races. The facility includes a 1.058-mile oval superspeedway and a 12-turn, 1.6-mile road course.
