The Texas state capitol, an Italian Rennaissance Revival style building, is considered the crown jewel of Austin in the city's skyline. The current building has been renovated several times and is the fourth structure to house the Texas government in Austin. The 308' tall, beautiful, pink granite building is on the National Registry of Historical Places and recognized as a National Historic Landmark. The cornerstone was laid on March 2, 1885, Texas Independence Day, and the building opened on April 21, 1888, on San Jacinto Day. The capitol rotunda features portraits of every president of the Republic of Texas and governors of the state, The south foyer features sculptures of Sam Houston and Stephen F. Austin. This is an original piece, framed and ready to hang.
