This panoramic photo of Shenandoah National Park features one of the most visited areas in the park, Dark Hollow Falls. The trail to the Falls is steep and rocky, following the winding Hogcamp Branch of the Rose River. Shenandoah National Park is a long and narrow park that encompasses part of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the Commonwealth of Virginia and contains mountains with elevations exceeding 4,000 feet. Some of the rocks exposed in the park date to over one billion years in age, making them among the oldest in Virginia. The many visitors that frequent the park do so on Skyline Drive, the 105-mile road that runs the length of the park along the ridge of the mountains, and the 101 mile section of the Appalachian Trail.
