Glacier National Park, Montana, Avalanche Lake / Scenic Panoramic Picture
from $108.90
This panoramic photo captures the serene Avalanche Lake of Glacier National Park. Located at the base of the 8,684-foot Bearhat Mountain, its crystal clear waters are fed by Sperry Glacier. Looking closely, several long waterfalls can be seen plunging hundreds of feet downward towards the lake, most of which originate from the glacier. The area was given its name from Dr. Sperry who, upon exploring the area, heard multiple avalanches and exclaimed, "Avalanche Basin would be a most appropriate name for the place". A testament to its name, hikers will often find hundreds of trees downed by avalanches that have recently roared down the mountain.
