The Coliseum has been home to the New York Islanders since their debut into the NHL® in 1972. The arena was built at the cost of 32 million dollars and sits on sixty-three acres of Mitchel Field, formerly an Army/Air Force base located in the center of Nassau County. The building was dedicated to those who had made the supreme sacrifice, hence the name Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Beginning the 2015-16 season, the Islanders will move to their new home in Brooklyn.
