Horseshoe Bend is a dramatic example of a geological feature known as an incised meander. As rivers flow across the land, they begin to loop back and forth in a sinuous, meandering pattern, and the ancient Colorado River was no exception. Millions of years ago, tectonic activity began to lift the Colorado Plateau and, as the earth slowly rose underneath it, the Colorado River maintained its meandering course as it sliced into the rising land. The result is this giant horseshoe-shaped curve that is incised into the sandstone 1000 feet below the rim.

Comes in two different sizes, a straight fit black metal frame at 40 x 13.5 (115), or a double matted with glossy black frame at 44.5 x 17.5 (175). Print comes custom framed in a 1 3/4" wood moulding with a double, acid-free mat and Plexi. All framing is done in-house by our experienced framers using gallery-quality materials.
