Garden of the Gods Park is a registered National Natural Landmark and one of Colorado's most photographed views. Located near Colorado Springs, the 1,367-acre park rests where the Great Plains grasslands meet the juniper woodlands. The towering 300-foot sandstone rock formations are backstopped by the magnificent 14,115-foot Pikes Peak, which inspired lyrics for the song America the Beautiful. While Pikes Peak is composed of granite, the jagged red and white sandstone peaks were formed when mountain plates collided into each other, causing the overlying sedimentary rocks to bend upward over time.
